Chapter 2

Bolt’s Pov

I looked at Romulus and Mhina suspiciously "Why are you two helping us"? "Because we can" Romulus told me, I growled loudly before uncle growled at me, telling me to be polite. Axel rolled his eyes at me and nodded respectfully at the two wolves. I huffed “Why have you two decided to help us and what pack are you from?” I asked them again. Mhina looked at Romulus, who sighed. "We...are from no pack, our parents are loners, therefore, we are too" Mhina explained. I nodded, understanding “Are you two siblings? Or do you have other siblings?” "My sister is not too far away from here" Mhina said, “Right, What about you Romulus?”. Romulus looked at me, his eyes darkening slightly “no, I don’t have any siblings, Mhina and her sister are acting like my siblings”. I nodded slowly then looked at Axel. Axel, who had been watching us nodded “Let’s head out, we will have to meet up with Mhina’s sister, wherever she is”, Mhina smiled and lead the way.

I laughed when I noticed Lupus following her like a lost puppy. Lupus was grinning as he followed, never taking his eyes off Mhina. I watched with curiosity. Inferno let out a snort, I looked at him, “you know Lupus is only going to get hurt, right?” Inferno spoke to me. I nodded cautiously "I know", Inferno gave me a grin, shaking his head, then walking after the others, leaving me behind. I sighed as I looked up at the sky. My legs walked after them, though I was a bit behind, I could hear what they were talking about, not that it was interesting enough to tell you. I saw Lupus walking beside Mhina, laughing.... I was worried, Lupus had such a kind heart, I didn’t want some she-wolf breaking it, I sighed at the thought. Mhina then stopped at gorse bushes, then called out "Sheila!". A wolf, a lot like Mhina, came out of the bushes, leaves stuck in her fur. Mhina laughed, Sheila huffed and shook her fur. When all the leaves were out, she looked around, her eyes settling on Lupus.... a faint colour of red settled on her cheeks, which had me wanting to laugh for years.

I watched as Mhina told Sheila the situation, Sheila’s eyes widened. I sighed then chose to take the lead, the others following me. Sheila followed close behind Lupus.

The air turned cold around me, clouds started covering the sun as I looked around worriedly. Axel stopped and growled, even my uncle's growl makes my fur stand on end, I knew something wasn’t right, it was like I had felt this before, I looked back at everyone. Inferno was gathering everyone together. Axel scented the air carefully, he knew that scent......... Nemesis..... I looked around until I noticed a few wolves up ahead, brown wolves with bits of flesh missing or their insides showing, the only scent I could smell was the scent of blood. Axel snarled viciously and stepped towards the wolves, I watched with fear. I was worried for my uncle, but I knew he would make it.... he had to make it. A nemesis pounced up and attacked Axel, who just barely dodged by a strand of fur. Axel snarled viciously at the Nemesis before swiping at it a few times, the Nemesis growled but disintegrated into the ground. Axel looked around quickly, I jumped when I heard a menacing growl behind us, I turned and there she was, the she-wolf we would have to kill, the End wolf, to say I was scared is an understatement, I was ready to go home with my tail between my legs. The End Wolf looked down at me with a smirk on her face, I whimpered, the others behind me were just as terrified as I was, I mean, this was the strongest wolf in Aenanor we’re talking about here, who isn’t scared of her is a mental wolf. Axel looked at End with a menacing stare. End cackled then summoned her wolves to retreat.

I sighed in relief, my legs weak and shaky from fear. Axel looked around and saw it was coming to be night "We should rest" he said to us. I fell to the ground, too tired to be standing anymore. Axel huffed and picked me up by the scruff, I yipped in embarrassment. Axel chuckled at me, funny old wolf... Everyone settled down and went to sleep.

The next morning, the sun decided to show up an hour early so we didn’t get much sleep. Axel yawned and stretched his front paws, I suppose he didn’t get a wink of sleep, hardly anyone did, Inferno was up all night on patrol. Axel looked at me "You slept like a rock, Bolt" he smiled at me, I huffed then looked away, embarrassed. Uncle chuckled then got up, I got up after him, everyone else had gotten ready while we were talking so we were ready to set off again. Axel scented the air "Starting to get cold, something tells me there’s going to be snow soon", Inferno nodded “I can feel it too”. I shivered at how cold it had gotten overnight, even the trees had gotten colder. Axel sighed as he thought of something, I looked at him curiously. Axel shook his head and saw Mhina and Sheila pacing around. I sat back down and looked at Romulus, “How old are you pup?” Romulus looked up at me "7 months old" he whimpered, “Why did you choose to help, pup? You’re so young” "In packs, I heard it the job of an apprentice was to help others...so...I adapted to that" he said. I nodded but I still couldn’t get it out of my head, why would such a young and bright pup choose to come with us on a dangerous mission...Romulus then padded over to Sheila and Mhina.

Sheila and Mhina were bickering about something or other like they usually did, I could hear them from all the way across the camp we made, which was quite large. Romulus tilted his head at them. I watched them before getting up and going to Axel, seeing Inferno on the way. Axel was just staring off into the distance, his eyes set on something. I wonder what, though. I sighed, catching his attention. Axel shook his head and looked at me "Hm?" “What are you up to?” I asked "Just making sure nothing sneaks up on us" Axel huffed, but I can tell he was lying. I nodded my head sarcastically, Axel rolled his eyes. “We need to head out” I said, the air was getting colder by the hour, it wouldn’t be good for Oracle or Romulus to be out in that sort of weather. Axel nodded and stood up. I got everyone together and we set off.

Axel noticed it had started to snow after they left. I huffed as snow landed on my snout. Uncle huffed and looked at me, I looked back at him then looked forward, noticing that the storm was getting worse and worse by the hour.
